Statewide Vesak Celebration 2018

Buddhists all over the world celebrate Vesak during the months of May through June each year. The Buddha taught that the Vesak, or Rains-Retreat, is for “cleansing of defiled mind”, resulting in inner calmness and joy. On this day, lay followers and monks intensify their practice, deepening their knowledge and expressing communal commitment through millennia-old acts of lay-monastic reciprocity.

The IBS team is very proud to announce that after 23 years of conducting the prison visitation program, we were honored by the Religious Program Oversight Unit in Sacramento with a Statewide Gate clearance. With this clearance we are now allowed to visit any institution in California.

The IBS team is planning our very first statewide Vesak event starting at the end of April through early June. The Vesak event program will include the following:

1 Bathing of the Buddha ceremony
2 Chanting and Meditation
3 Dharma teaching
4 Taking Triple Gems Refuge and Five Precepts
5 Vegetarian meal

IBS’ main mission is to bring the Buddha Dharma, hope and provide second chances to all of the incarcerated brothers and sisters in the iron temples. As such, we sincerely thank those who have contributed the support and assistance that have enabled these meaningful activities to be possible. Any donation will be gratefully accepted and deeply appreciated. To make a donation, please contact the following sources:
